Newburgh, NY. October 2, 2013 –It was a fun-filled day at the ‘Longaberger Goes Local’ fundraiser, where Longaberger branch leader and home consultants raffled off over seventy American-made, hand-crafted baskets, pottery, and seasonal items. All of the elaborate raffle prizes were donated by the independent consultants to help raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and the Nora Cronin Presentation Academy in Newburgh.
The event was a basket load of success for both organizations, raising a total of $5,155. Big Brothers Big Sisters was pleased to be awarded $2,552 to support their one-to-one mentoring programs for children in Orange County. And the Nora Cronin Presentation Academy was awarded $2,602, additional proceeds thanks to their private raffle and bake sale. Nora Cronin Board President, Karen DeCrosta was delighted to know they could continue to assist their students in reaching for academic success.
The local ‘Of the Earth’ Longaberger branch of independent consultants wanted to keep their fundraising local. Last year they chose to support the Orange County Fire Fighters’ Fire Education Safety Center, the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, and collected food for the Veteran’s Pantry. “This year,” said Barbara Mullin, Branch Manager, “we chose to focus on helping children. There is tremendous admiration for the work that Big Brothers Big Sisters does. Watching how the organization is run, seeing all the volunteers - knowing some of the ‘Bigs’ – there’s just an absolute respect for all that it takes, and all that the organization does to help. And we wanted to help in the way that we could. It’s the generosity of the branch consultants really; it’s a tremendous effort from my team.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters is very grateful for this generous support, along with the school supplies and backpacks donated to the fundraiser by Toyota Leasing, to help prepare children for learning this school year.
“We rely on community partnerships like this one” said Executive Director Nancy Kosloski, “to keep the needed mentoring programs growing and going strong. The support from this fundraiser will help us change children’s lives for the better, forever. We are very grateful for this wonderful generosity.”
